5 Apr 2024 // The Surprising Benefits of Journaling One Sentence Every Day

This article uses famous, talented people, such as Oprah Winfrey and Leonardo Da Vinci, to prove its point that journalling is useful. As a reader, I'm much more likely to believe in the benefits of journalling if I can see that many successful people have done it. And while it may not be the sole reason for their success, it's a common factor that all of them had, therefore it must've helped.  I've been wanting to get into journalling as I think it's a great habit to have, and this article has motivated me to begin! Here are some starting points on what you should write about in your journal, for anyone else interested in starting. What happened today? (Daily journal) What am I grateful for today? (Gratitude journal) What is my most important task today? (Productivity journal) How did I sleep last night? (Sleep journal) How do I feel today? (Mood journal) https://jamesclear.com/journaling-one-sentence

19 Dec 23 // Climate-change Myths

Image
A creative and satirical article, littered with humor throughout, that explores two different perspectives on climate change. Through the use of satire, it effectively criticizes the misconceptions around climate change and portrays how people sound when trying to defend their unsupported arguments.  Its unique structure is almost like a script between the Climate-change 'Myths' and the 'Facts'. This makes it more entertaining for the reader, while still conveying the point that the myths are ridiculous and people need to start listening to the proven facts.  https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/09/11/myths-and-facts-about-climate-change

29 Nov 2023 // The Wisdom of the Crowd

Image
This interesting article published in "America's most critical journal since 1999" is incredibly thought-inducing.  Through its use of relevant examples ranging from the early 1700s to just 3 years ago, it highlights how crowd thinking has always escalated and led to essentially dumb ideas. It uses satirical language and a clear tone of sarcasm to prove its point on how unsuccessful these events were. Making it a very intriguing read as the techniques used make it very engaging.  It just goes to show, that just because a large group of people agree with or decide on something, doesn't mean it's a good thing that should be carried out.  https://www.thesatirist.com/essays/the-wisdom-of-the-crowd.html

I Have the Right To by Chessy Prout: Book Review

Image
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This powerful and moving story takes us on a journey with Chessy as she overcomes a horrible experience. It was one of the first non-fiction books I’ve read in a while. I found the photos made the story so much more impactful, as they reminded the reader that this was a real person suffering and going through the events described, not a fictional character. However, it’s clear that this is Chessy’s first book because as a reader there were parts that were lacking or too over-detailed. This is no hate at all to her, but I would recommend this to people who want to learn more about a survivor's experience. Chessy, if you’re reading this I wish you the best and I hope you know how inspiring and influential you are. "When a jerk stuck up his middle finger... I stood taller, held my sign higher, and yelled louder. Because I had t...

8 Nov 2023 // The Perks of Being a Late Bloomer

Image
Words: 1, 227 This article spoke about the life of the painter David Epstein. It was interesting to read about how flexible life can be, as Epstein tried so many jobs (bookseller, pastor...) and still didn't know what to do. I also found the idea of Match quality comforting, because of the idea that everyone has something they're good at but might not have found it yet.  Overall it's a very motivating article that discusses many important points, such as being set free by failure.  https://coffeeandjunk.com/late-bloomer/

7 Nov 2023 // A Real Human Skull Was Just Discovered In The Halloween Section Of A Florida Antique Store

Image
A very different type of article from what I usually read, but it is interesting nonetheless. It's fascinating to think of whether the skull would've been identified as human, had the person browsing not been an anthropologist.  Sometimes reading a short article from the news is just as captivating as any of the others in this blog. https://allthatsinteresting.com/florida-thrift-store-skull

6 Nov 2023 // The Hooked Model: How to Manufacture Desire in 4 Steps

Image
As a business student, this article was riveting as I got to see how social media apps become so addictive through this method of Trigger, Action, Reward, and Investment.  As a consumer of this media, it was kind of an eye-opening read as it made me realize how easily my brain is being manipulated by my phone.  Therefore after reading this, I've decided to change my habits and aim for less than 1 hour of screentime daily.  https://www.nirandfar.com/how-to-manufacture-desire/
